APS6 Policy Officer

  • Location: Geelong VIC
  • Management: Reports to an EL1 Assistant Director (No direct reports)
  • Contract Type: Contracted role until 31st December with further extensions
  • Pay Rate: $60.26ph + super
  • Full time hours role only
  • Australian Citizenship is a Mandatory requirement

In this role, you won't just analyze policy - you will help shape the future of the Disability Sector. You will delve into complex issues, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and use data-driven insights to recommend and implement meaningful reforms. If you love solving complex puzzles, writing with purpose, and working in a dynamic team environment, this is the role for you.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Shape Reform: Contribute to critical policy updates and project documents that drive efficiency in the NDIS market.
  • Analyze & Recommend: Review data, legislation, and technical inputs to form solid, actionable policy recommendations.
  • Engage & Collaborate: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, leading engagement activities to gather diverse perspectives.
  • Write for Impact: Prepare high-quality policy papers, briefings, presentations, and correspondence for senior government audiences.

What We Are Looking For (Skills & Experience)

  • Policy Professionals: Proven experience in strategic policy, interpreting legislation, or strategic commissioning.
  • Exceptional Communicators: Advanced writing and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise government briefings.
  • Adaptable Team Players: A collaborative mindset, a positive attitude, and the agility to handle emerging priorities with limited direction.
  • Industry Insight (Desirable): Knowledge of the disability sector or an understanding of Commonwealth procurement rules is a major plus.
  • Education: A relevant bachelor’s degree is highly regarded, though equivalent professional experience is equally valued.
